Organizations Names and Codes

AiDA has adopted the 4 letter organizations codes developed by the International Network for Development Information Exchange (INDIX), which was known as the CEFDA Institution Authority File (CIAF) of names of organizations. It is only necessary to use the 4 letter organization codes for Funding organizations. Some new names have recently been submitted to the list but they have not yet been verified. If you cannot find a code for a funding organization, please submit the name of the organization to AiDA and we will assign a code for the organization. You can view the entire list or browse the list with one of the options below. You can download the organization names and codes in Excel or a comma delimited format. If the information for your organization is out of date, please send corrections to aida@developmentgateway.org

Country and Region Codes

AiDA uses the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) three-character alpha codes for to harmonize the representation of country names. We have included the ISO 2 alpha codes to assist participants who already use these convert to ISO3 codes for every country.

There are many regional classifications in use among the development community. We request participants to identify all the countries involved in a project so we can map the country to the United Nations Statistical Department Regions and the World Bank Regions which are used by the Development Gateway to present results by region. If you have a regional project that is classified by other criteria, we suggest you map your region to the closest UNSD region and include the three letter region code in the data you share with AiDA.

Sectors: DAC 5 Codes and CRS Purpose Codes

Some organizations classify activities by Sector. If your organization has this information, it is very desirable to include it and map your sectors to the OECD-DAC Creditor Reporting System (CRS) Purpose Codes. The DAC5 numeric codes are the standard values used by AiDA to index development activities by sector so they can be found through the search by Sector.These codes are also used to retrieve information by sector in the French and Spanish versions of AiDA.

Activity Status Codes

The International Network for Development Information Exchange (INDIX) has developed numeric codes for the representation of stages of a development activity. Please map the project status to the following classification using the appropriate numeric code:

   1=planned
   2=ongoing
   3=completed
   4=cancelled
   5=in abeyance
   6=committed

The definitions are:
    Planned -- From the conceptual stage to just prior to approval
    Ongoing -- The activity is approved, is active, but is not yet completed
    Completed -- The activity is finished, with all approved assistance provided
    Cancelled -- The activity was approved but was terminated prior to planned completion
    In abeyance -- The activity has been suspended
    Committed -- Only OECD-DAC uses this. A committment is a firm obligation, expressed in writing and backed by the necessary funds, undertaken by an official donor to provide specified assistance to a recipient country or a multilateral organisation. Bilateral commitments are recorded in the full amount of expected transfer, irrespective of the time required for the completion of disbursements. Commitments to multilateral organisations are reported as the sum of (i) any disbursements in the year reported on which have not previously been notified as commitments and (ii) expected disbursements in the following year.

   1=grant

AiDA gives a classification of topics of emphasis of its development projects.

To link directly to a topic window insert the following link to your site:

http://aida.developmentgateway.org/TWView.do?tid=130

where the number at the end of the URL denotes a topic code. In this case, 130 denotes the Information and Communication Technologies topic. You can replace the number (topic code) at the end of the URL based on the topic on which you would like to view/link information. Sources

AiDA automatically retrieves data from a number of organizations, called sources. Here is an example of a source window that you can use to view information on a particular source or directly link to from your site:

http://aida.developmentgateway.org/AidaSearchPromptSource.do?sources=true&sourceSelected=20

where the number at the end of the URL denotes the source code. In this case, 20 denotes DFID. You can replace the number (source code) at the end of the URL based on the source on which you would like to view information. Click on the link below to view the list of source codes used in AiDA:
